Dougie-Week #5 “The End Is Near”


As I walked my huskies in the cold nights air
I came upon a figure with a demonic stare
Who could it be?
I don’t want to see
then I saw one arm raised high 
What does it want and Why? 
Its ghostly glow filled the darkness 
Alarms ring and dogs start barking
he tightly gripping his weapon 
The other hand reaches toward me 
There is no escaping 
Time is almost up

October is over and we only have two months til the end of the year

I am truly a fan of Halloween due to the decorative light displays. Its an opportunity for creative people to openly share their talents and imaginations. This particular photo demonstrates the use of string lights. Ive always been fascinated with this inexpensive, light weight product. Due to its maneuverability it allows for endless and convenient possibilities of developing lighting scenarios. As you can see the bulbs conform to figures, illuminate shape and add dimension. The are know for creating and enhancing mood and provoking emotion; be it cheerful or “grim”.

    I like the image and the sentiment but this is not a lighting post - there is no mention of light or you connection to it - I do appreciate the poetic posts but all others have also mentioned light - I need to know how it is affecting you - please keep in mind for future - thank you!

For the final week of the lighting blog posts I wanted to post photos from my trip to visit my sister who is expecting! She is waiting to deliver as this moment! We went to a Christmas tree lighting and it was one of the most romantic things I have seen in a long time. The family life was in the air and manifest from a passion of deep love between her love for her husband. I have felt a very Hallmark type of feeling since seeing these lights and I think these trees are very emblematic of this feeling. The jumbling of hues and their vibrancy brings about a strange surreal atmosphere that only enhances surreal feeling. They each have a feeling (especially the blue ones) of their own but combined they truly transform the park into a fantasy land! Looking forward to visiting this place again with my 1 year old niece next year!

Jehbreal Texture contrast

I was struck by the contrast of the texture of these two works of art this past week at the open house. The harsh texture pf the metal plate with the soft subject of text versus the soft texture of the diffused light and color of the picture with the harsh subject of the gun. It made me remember in particular how drawn I am to terrible things being portrayed with pristine beauty in film and painting. I haven't seen it so much in dance and hope to make more work which does this very thing.

Week 3: Mermaid Caves by Chanel Kostich

                                                                               Mermaid Caves~Chanel Kostich This photo was taken at the Mermaid Caves on the west shores of Oahu, Hawaii. This was a hidden gem that I adventured out to with my friend. The cave  looks out into the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean. The calming and enchanting ambiance is a magical sight to see. In order to get to this secret spot, we had to walk across  jagged lava terrain and jump through a small hole. Once I got into the cave, I felt as if I was  bewitched by the crystal clear water rushing towards the shore.
