Week 5-Chanel Kostich-Backstreet Boys
Backstreet Boys (Oahu, Hawaii)~Chanel Kostich
This weekend, I went to Hawaii to visit my dad and some friends. I had the random opportunity to go and see a Backstreet Boys concert unexpectedly because my friend had 2 extra tickets! We saw them perform at the Blaisdell center. They were phenomenal! The Boyband put on a great show full of dancing, awesome stage lights and projection, humor and great singing! I didn’t realize how popular they were until I saw them in action! I was dancing along to one of their songs and one of the band members was mimicking my dancing movement on stage. It was great! In this picture, the floor was rising as they were singing. This picture is very special because the lights that are surrounding the stage are coming from people holding their cameras up producing the extra light you see. There is also a stage special, with the light being directly focused on the band. After talking about lights and effects in lighting class, I could see it all being reflected on stage at this concert. It was pretty cool to think of the lights in the perspective of being a lighting designer and how I can now envision different specials like I saw throughout the show. The audience’s lights and the special on the boy and with the people down below looking up at the singers just gives this picture so much depth and majestic beauty. I am now inspired to put my work in action after watching this great concert in Hawaii!
I am so glad that this class is helping you to see lighting everywhere and in your work :)
